COLORS

If you are importing EPS or TIFF files created in Photoshop, make sure they are saved as CMYK — not RGB, LAB or Index Color. Also, do not mix CMYK and Pantone (PMS) formats within the same Photoshop file.

NAMING COLORS — When naming colors, especially Pantone or custom spot colors, be sure that you keep these color names consistent everywhere you use the color (for example, if you create a color in QuarkXpress, then create it again in Photoshop for use in an image, name the color in Photoshop whatever you named it in Quark.) Otherwise your file will generate an additional plate in the output process, resulting in added costs and delays.

SPOT COLORS — Using spot colors? If so, please print out your document in separations (in addition to a composite print) prior to sending your job to us. This will allow you to determine if colors are printing to the correct plates, saving time and money by avoiding delays or production charges.

FONTS

CONVERT FONTS TO OUTLINES — If you are creating your document in Abode Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand — do not embed fonts in the file. Be sure to convert all type elements to 'outlines' or 'paths' and save the file as an EPS.

AVOID STYLIZED FONTS — Do not use stylized fonts (adding a 'bold', 'italic', 'extra bold', etc. from the font style menu). Make sure you select the desired font directly. In other words, use the font menu to select 'Times Extra Bold' rather than selecting 'Times', then styling it with an 'Extra Bold' attribute.

FONTS USED IN EPS FILES — If you have embedded EPS files that contain fonts not converted to outlines (or paths), you must send us these fonts, as well, or the they will default in the output process.

Tips, TimeSavers & MoneySavers

• Remove all unused elements (images, type, etc.) from the pasteboard of your final document. They needlessly bloat the file size and if you leave anything there in a RGB format, it will throw off the color gamut range for output.

• IMPORTANT: Include a color (if applicable) laser printed copy of the exact file you're sending. If any glitches occur when we output the file, we'll be able to save time by quickly identifying the problem.

• If your file was prepared in QuarkXPress and you've created custom elements (frames, special type specs, table formatting, etc.) — be sure to include your Quark 'Preferences' file.

• Four Color Black Ink: For a nice, rich black ink coverage (a background, or dominant color coverage), use the following mixture: 40% Cyan, 20% Magenta, 20% Yellow, and 100% Black.
